The Pressure Vessel

Apr 16, 2026

As I reflect on the past and consider the people I am losing to end-of-life realities, I am struck by the image of a failing steam engine. There is something almost biological about a steam locomotive; they possess distinct personalities, quirks, and vulnerabilities, much like the people who operate them.

History is littered with notable railroad disasters—catastrophic boiler explosions and violent derailments. Interestingly, these disasters were the very things that led to safety improvements, pressure valves, and rigorous inspection protocols. They reduced the likelihood of catastrophic failure by making the invisible visible.

What if we viewed ourselves as these pressure vessels?

Too many high performers are busy slapping a fresh coat of paint on the exterior while the boiler is rotting from the inside. As Client Zero, I have had to ask the hard question: Am I maintaining the engine, or just the image of the engine?

Furthermore, look at the tracks. Even the most powerful locomotive is useless if the infrastructure beneath it is crumbling. Are we managing our lives—our "railroads"—in a way that reduces derailments? Or are we running both the equipment and the infrastructure into the ground, simply hoping we have enough time before the next boiler explosion or track failure?

The Apex of Truth is not about achieving a state of perfection. It is about a brutal, honest examination of the human machine and the infrastructure surrounding it. It’s why the Truth Audit was built: to find the leaks before the pressure becomes terminal.

Take the Truth Audit to start the rebuild and reclaim your momentum.
